New Payments cover payments authorised by the card acquirer, in cases where the money has not yet been drawn from the customer's account. In the list next to each payment, you will find a varying number and type of links, depending on if it follows the two-steps or three-steps model; and depending on the age of the authorisation or if confirmation has been done:
- for transactions following the two-steps model:
- where the authorisation does not exceed a certain age:
- 'Capture'
- 'New amount'
- 'Cancel'
- where the authorisation does exceed a certain age:
- 'Renew'
- 'Cancel'
- for transactions following the three-steps model:
- where confirmation has not been done:
- 'Confirm'
- 'New amount'
- 'Cancel'
- where confirmation has been done:
- 'Capture'
- 'New amount'
- 'Cancel'
Renew (only the two-steps model)
If an authorised payment is older than a certain age, a 'Renew' link exists. This is due to the fact, that the acquirer only guarantees an authorisation in up to a certain number of days, and you therefore have to repeat the authorisation if it is older than this. It is a good idea to renew an authorisation before any goods are dispatched, if more than a certain number of days have elapsed since the order (the authorisation of the card). In this way, you make sure that the customer's card has not been blocked or the like in the meantime.
Confirm (only the three-steps model)
This link is used to initiate the 7 days payment guarantee. Typically you will hereby ensure, that the money continued may be drawn from the customers card before goods are dispatched. After the confirmation has been approved the goods are dispatched and you may subsequently use 'Capture' to draw to money and terminate the transaction.
Capture
Whenever a given authorisation has been processed and the goods dispatched to the customer, you click 'Capture'. This enables a money transfer from the customer's account to your own (i.e. the account number you have stated to the acquirer). Once a payment has been captured, it is transferred to 'Captured payments', and all sensitive information (card number and expiry date) is deleted from DIBS.
New amount
'New amount' is relevant in cases where a specific order includes more than one item, and where the shop (you) can only deliver part of the order and, therefore, wish to draw a smaller amount from the customer's account than initially expected. You use the 'New amount' link to change the size of one specific payment. Please note that 'New amount' only handles amounts smaller than the authorised amount. If the amount is to be increased, the customer has to authorise another buy in the shop - and in doing so confirming the increased amount.
To make use of 'New amount' you type in the new amount and click the button 'New amount'. Afterwards the new amount and transaction must be captured quite normally.
Cancel
If you click 'Cancel' next to a given payment, all information about the payment is deleted from DIBS and transferred to the 'Cancelled' section.
Multiple operations
If you like, you can perform the above operations on a number of payments simultaneously. You do so by ticking the box next to a given payment and subsequently use the buttons below the list of payments. You may carry out the following operations:
- Renew/confirm
- Capture
- Renew/confirm and capture
- Cancel
The function is a strong tool which allows you to carry out operations fairly quickly. However, you should use this tool with caution. Used in the wrong way, you risk carrying out unintended operations.
